Why you cannot just add the numbers
Time is base 60, so 1:45 plus 1:30 is 3:15, not 2:75. The safe method is to convert everything to minutes, add, then divide by 60 for hours and keep the remainder as minutes — which is what this calculator does.
Questions people ask
How do I add hours and minutes?
Add the minutes; for every 60, carry one hour. 2:45 + 1:30: 45 + 30 = 75 minutes = 1 hour 15, so the total is 4:15.
What does a plain number mean?
A number without a colon or unit is read as minutes, so 50 means 50 minutes. Write 2h or 2:00 for two hours.
