High School GPA Calculator
Work out both your weighted and unweighted high school GPA. Choose a grade and a level for each class: Honors classes add 0.5 and AP, IB or dual-credit classes add 1.0 to the grade points, the most common weighting in US high schools.
- Unweighted GPA
- 3.55
- Classes counted
- 6
- Honors and AP classes

Weighted versus unweighted
An unweighted GPA tops out at 4.0 and treats every class the same. A weighted GPA rewards harder classes: an A in an AP class counts as 5.0 and an A in Honors as 4.5, so the weighted figure can exceed 4.0.
Colleges see both. Many recalculate GPA their own way from your transcript, so course rigor matters as much as the number.
Assumptions to check against your school
Every class here counts equally, as full-year or equal-credit courses do. A failed class earns no weighting bonus. Schools differ: some add 0.5 for AP rather than 1.0, some count A+ as 4.3, and some weight only core subjects. Your school profile or counselor has the exact rules.
Questions people ask
What is a B in an AP class worth?
4.0 weighted (3.0 + 1.0) and 3.0 unweighted. In an Honors class the same B is 3.5 weighted.
Can my weighted GPA be above 4.0?
Yes. Straight As with four AP classes out of six works out to (4 × 5.0 + 2 × 4.0) ÷ 6 = 4.67.
Which GPA do colleges look at?
Both, alongside the difficulty of your courses. Report whichever the application asks for, and say which it is.
