Formula
Flat: commission = sales × rate ÷ 100
Tiered: commission = (sales up to threshold × rate 1) + (sales above threshold × rate 2)

Check what the rate applies to
Commission plans differ on the base: revenue, gross profit, or revenue collected. 10% of gross profit on a $10,000 sale with a 30% margin is $300, not $1,000. Read the plan before you run the numbers.
